The Western Gateway Partnership has launched a new website and updated brand to help showcase the potential of South Wales and the West of England, ahead of plans to become the UK’s fastest-growing region outside of London.
The regional partnership, which covers a vast 150-mile stretch from St Davids in Pembrokeshire to Swindon and Salisbury, has worked with creative agency Milk & Tweed to enhance its digital presence. The new website and refreshed branding are designed to attract new investments and highlight the region’s growing economic potential.
Fiona Williams, Communications Officer at the Western Gateway, explained that the new platform was a crucial step in representing the region’s ambitions. “We wanted a website that not only showcased the natural beauty of the area but also highlighted its business potential,” she said. “With Milk & Tweed’s help, we now have a site that reflects the innovation and opportunities available here.”
The partnership, which represents 4.8 million people across the region, works strategically with local businesses, academia, and government to drive growth in key areas such as green energy, connectivity, and cyber technology. The new website, which features an interactive and intuitive design, aims to attract more investment into the region, which currently misses out on £3 million to £9 million of potential investment each year, according to recent research by the partnership.
Milk & Tweed, based in Chippenham, was chosen for the project due to its understanding of the Western Gateway’s mission. “They grasped our goals from the start, keeping us informed throughout the process,” Williams said.
A key feature of the updated branding is the redesigned logo, incorporating a bridge motif inspired by the Prince of Wales Bridge, which connects South Wales with Western England. This symbol of collaboration underlines the partnership’s goal of bringing together businesses and communities across the two regions.
The new website highlights the Western Gateway’s ongoing projects, including developments in renewable energy and digital technology, and offers tools like a regional hydrogen energy map and a downloadable research library aimed at potential investors.
Williams noted that despite the region’s significant potential, it remains under-invested compared to other areas in the UK. However, the new website is set to change that by offering a dynamic platform for businesses and investors to explore the many opportunities available.
“The Western Gateway is expected to be the UK’s fastest-growing region outside London over the next five years,” Williams said. “Our new website will make it easier for people to learn about and engage with the exciting developments taking place in the region.”
Milk & Tweed’s Creative Director, Jake Jeffries, expressed pride in being part of the project. “As a South West-based business, this is a project that is close to our hearts,” he said. “We’re excited to have contributed to a future that looks bright for the region.”
