Dynamic Map Platform (DMP), a global leader in high-definition mapping and software for the automotive sector, has announced the release of its first HD map spanning 16 European countries. This expansion is a major step towards supporting the development of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving technologies with highly accurate mapping solutions.
The company, which has already established itself in North America, Japan, and Korea, has now mapped over 270,000 kilometres of European motorways and trunk roads, delivering unparalleled precision for key map features with an accuracy of 15 cm. DMP’s comprehensive Europe-wide map covers countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, among others.
Shuichi Yoshimura, CEO and President of DMP, emphasised the significance of this milestone: “Our expansion into these 16 countries underscores our commitment to supporting the global automotive industry with the most accurate, reliable, and detailed maps available. Our European expansion is just the beginning — we are continuously working to enhance and extend our mapping coverage globally. We are progressing on our mission to model the Earth.”
The HD map platform is crucial for the development of hands-free driving systems and supports Level 2+ ADAS functions, a level that allows for semi-autonomous driving with driver supervision. DMP’s advanced toolchain can accurately detect and map hundreds of physical and virtual road features, including lane markings, road signs, traffic control devices, and even more intricate details such as lane centre lines and virtual lane edges. These data points form a critical part of ensuring that vehicles can navigate roads autonomously with precision and safety.
Chris Thibodeau, CEO of DMP North America, stressed the importance of accuracy in their mapping solutions: “Our focus on accuracy is what sets us apart in the industry. By employing a highly detailed and precise mapping system, we empower automakers to develop ADAS and autonomous systems that are not only safer but also more intuitive for the driver.”
DMP’s ‘ground truth’ measurements provide a reliable foundation for automakers to develop robust roadway modelling and analytics. This accuracy is key for ensuring the safe integration of ADAS systems in vehicles, allowing for smooth hands-off driving experiences across the mapped countries.
The 16 countries in DMP’s European map include Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The mapping service is expected to benefit automakers across the continent as they work on integrating autonomous driving features into their vehicles.
DMP is already collaborating with several major automotive manufacturers to ensure seamless integration of its HD maps into their systems. Testing is currently underway to ensure that the maps can be effectively implemented into OEM systems to support both current and future driving technologies.
