Aberdeenshire-based Benzies Produce is deepening its long-standing relationship with Asda by expanding its range of locally grown vegetables. Having supplied carrots to Asda stores across Scotland for over 16 years, Benzies will now also provide the retailer with more than 500 tonnes of Scottish-grown parsnips, available in all 62 Asda Scotland stores. This marks a significant milestone for the family-run farming business, further cementing its position as a leading local vegetable supplier in Scotland.
Benzies Produce was founded in the early 1950s and remains a family-owned and operated business. Currently run by Philip and Hazel Benzie, along with their stepson Charles, the company is now in its fourth generation. Based in Turriff, in the North-East of Scotland, Benzies employs around 100 people, specialising in growing and packaging a variety of root vegetables. Their dedication to quality and sustainability has made them a trusted partner for major retailers like Asda.
Since 2008, Benzies has supplied Asda with a range of Scottish-grown carrots, including 500g, 1kg, and 1.5kg packs, as well as loose carrots. With this latest development, Benzies is adding three new lines of parsnips to its portfolio. Asda customers can now purchase 500g packs of parsnips, loose parsnips, and Just Essentials parsnips, all sourced locally and delivered fresh to stores across Scotland.
Philip Benzie, owner of Benzies Produce, expressed his excitement about the expanded partnership: “We’re absolutely thrilled to grow our collaboration with Asda, now supplying all core carrots and parsnips to their Scotland stores. Everything we supply is grown, harvested, and packaged right here in Scotland, so it’s fantastic to see a major retailer supporting local farming. This partnership not only brings fresh produce to customers but also creates jobs in the community.”
Benzies Produce is also committed to sustainability. The company operates a wind turbine that powers its facilities, with any excess energy being exported back to the grid. This sustainable approach helps reduce the carbon footprint of the supply chain, ensuring that the vegetables reach Asda’s shelves with minimal environmental impact.
Ashley Connolly, Asda’s Local Buying Manager for Scotland, shared her enthusiasm for the continued relationship with Benzies Produce: “We’re delighted to expand our partnership by adding locally grown parsnips to our range. By working with local growers and packers like Benzies, we can offer Scottish customers the freshest, highest-quality produce with less travel time than imported goods.”
Customers can now find Benzies’ carrots and parsnips in Asda stores across Scotland or shop online at www.asda.com, benefiting from the freshest local vegetables that support both the community and the environment.
