A well-known Scottish family-run transport firm has been acquired by a significant player in the European food logistics industry. This acquisition signals an expansion of the firm’s footprint and services within the highly competitive UK and European transport sectors.
The acquisition involves Langdons, a key player in the UK’s temperature-controlled food transport sector, taking over Long Lane Deliveries, a family-owned business with deep roots in Scotland. The move is part of the STEF Group’s broader strategy to consolidate its position as a European leader in the food supply chain logistics industry.
This strategic acquisition not only expands the group’s geographical reach but also enhances its ability to serve food manufacturers, retailers, and foodservice providers across a broader region. By integrating Long Lane Deliveries into its operations, STEF Group strengthens its logistical network, providing comprehensive services across the UK and Europe.
Long Lane Deliveries, which was founded in 2002, has long been a partner to Langdons. The company is known for its expertise in the transportation of chilled, frozen, and ambient food products, both within Scotland and across the UK. Operating from its two primary sites in Bellshill and Dundee, Long Lane Deliveries boasts a fleet of 140 vehicles and employs 330 staff members.
Langdons, on the other hand, has been a part of the STEF Group since 2022 and is recognised as a leading specialist in the transport of temperature-controlled food products. With 1,400 employees and a fleet of 750 vehicles spread across eight UK locations, including one in Motherwell, Langdons manages the movement of approximately 2.7 million pallets annually for around 2,000 customers. The integration of Long Lane Deliveries into the Langdons network is expected to enhance its service offering significantly.
Arran Osman, Managing Director of Langdons, expressed his enthusiasm about the acquisition, highlighting the shared values between the two companies. “We are delighted to be joining forces with Long Lane Deliveries, a company that shares our commitment to customer satisfaction and employee wellbeing. By welcoming their experienced and dedicated team into our fold, we are poised to offer even more value-added solutions, which will be vital in supporting the growth and development of our customers.”
Similarly, James and David Myles, directors of Long Lane Deliveries, view the acquisition as a significant opportunity for growth. “This merger offers a unique opportunity for Long Lane Deliveries to join forces with Langdons and become part of the STEF Group. Our two companies are well-matched, with complementary business models and a shared focus on meeting customer needs. We believe this move will be highly beneficial for both our team and our customers.”
The acquisition is expected to bring operational synergies and enhance the service capabilities of both Langdons and Long Lane Deliveries, further cementing their positions in the UK and European markets.
