A new study has revealed the most popular dining room styles in the UK, with modern designs topping the list of Pinterest searches.
Furniture Village analysed search data from the platform over the past year, identifying which styles attracted the most interest. Modern dining rooms emerged as the clear favourite, generating an average of 3,832 searches per month. Despite being a stark contrast in design, Victorian-style dining rooms followed closely with 3,826 monthly searches.
Other sought-after aesthetics included country (3,675), Scandinavian (3,634), and farmhouse (3,578) dining rooms. The data highlights how UK homeowners are increasingly turning to Pinterest for inspiration when decorating their dining spaces.
Why Modern Dining Rooms Dominate
Experts at Furniture Village believe the popularity of modern dining rooms stems from their clean lines and neutral tones, which create a sleek yet welcoming space. A spokesperson for the company explained:
“Modern dining rooms often feature soft greys and creams, with touches of wood in furniture such as dining tables and sideboards. This creates a paired-back, stylish, and inviting atmosphere that appeals to many homeowners.”
Despite its contemporary counterpart leading the rankings, the Victorian dining room was not far behind in search popularity. This traditional style is characterised by rich colours, opulent accessories, and intricate detailing. According to Furniture Village, the allure of Victorian interiors lies in their ability to make a bold, sophisticated statement.
Rustic and Scandinavian Styles Also in Demand
Country dining rooms, a style renowned for its homely charm, placed third in the rankings. The aesthetic aims to bring the outdoors inside, with natural materials playing a key role. The Furniture Village expert said:
“Wooden dining tables, particularly in rustic oak or pine, are a staple of country dining rooms. Paired with natural woven chairs, this creates an inviting space that feels warm and timeless.”
Scandinavian, or ‘Scandi’, dining rooms also remain a favourite among British homeowners. With an average of 3,634 searches per month, the style’s light colour palette and minimalist approach continue to resonate. Signature features include pastel hues, pale wood such as birch and pine, and an uncluttered layout that fosters a cosy yet functional setting.
Farmhouse dining rooms, while similar to country styles, offer distinct differences, including warm tones, statement lighting, and textured materials such as faux fur. They secured the fifth spot with 3,578 searches.
