Discovery Education has announced a series of major updates to its award-winning DoodleMaths app, designed to further support personalised learning and boost numeracy skills for children across the UK.
DoodleMaths, a research-backed digital learning tool, provides self-paced, curriculum-aligned maths practice for pupils from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to Key Stage 3 (KS3). Already widely used by teachers and pupils, the app’s latest enhancements aim to make learning even more interactive, engaging, and accessible.
New Features to Support Learning
The enhancements, developed in collaboration with teachers and education experts, introduce new interactive lessons, digital tools, and accessibility improvements.
- New interactive lessons – A three-part lesson structure, ‘Connect, Discover, and Explore,’ helps pupils consolidate learning, acquire new skills, and apply knowledge through real-world, in-app tasks.
- Digital manipulatives and models – Pupils can now use hands-on interactive tools to improve their understanding of numerical concepts. Additional images and animations have also been added to boost engagement.
- Accessibility improvements – A new text-to-speech (TTS) feature allows pupils to listen to single lines of text, while a built-in glossary provides instant definitions of unfamiliar words. The app’s updated user interface also improves readability for children with low vision or colour blindness, and hundreds of questions have been redesigned to align with accessibility best practices.
- Curriculum expansion – DoodleMaths now covers more of the primary maths curriculum, particularly at EYFS, and introduces shorter, more focused lessons that can be completed in just ten minutes.
Steve Richards, UK Product Manager at DoodleLearning, said the updates would ensure more pupils could benefit from high-quality, tailored learning experiences.
“These new enhancements make it even easier for pupils, including those with differing abilities, to access high-quality learning experiences that support increased achievement,” he said. “We are committed to ensuring every pupil using DoodleLearning can progress at their own pace and grow in confidence, and we look forward to unveiling even more updates to our award-winning suite of apps very soon.”
Proven Impact on Learning
DoodleLearning, part of the Discovery Education family, is designed to provide each child with a personalised learning journey, boosting confidence and ability. Research from the University of Bath found that children who use DoodleMaths for just 20 minutes a week are four times less likely to experience learning loss than their peers. The study also showed that using the app ‘little and often’ can double a child’s rate of progression.
The latest updates come as Discovery Education continues to develop its digital learning solutions. Further enhancements to DoodleLearning are planned for release throughout 2025 and 2026.
