E.ON has announced plans to roll out six new ultra-rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging hubs across Scotland, adding 42 high-powered chargers to its growing network. The new hubs, capable of delivering up to 150 miles of range in just 10 minutes, will be strategically located near key cities including Edinburgh, Dundee, Stirling, and Dunfermline.
This initiative supports Scotland’s transition to cleaner, greener transportation by providing reliable charging infrastructure for local commuters and tourists alike. The hubs will join E.ON’s existing ultra-rapid site in Aberdeen, located at Wellington Circle, south of the city. The Aberdeen hub features 12 charging bays, including four designed for disabled users, and serves as a key charging point for drivers entering or leaving the Granite City.
The new chargers, which boast a combined capacity of 12.6MW—equivalent to powering 40,000 UK homes—will be capable of charging 42 vehicles simultaneously. They aim to address gaps in Scotland’s EV infrastructure, where distances between charging points can often create challenges for drivers.
Dev Chana, Managing Director of E.ON Drive Infrastructure UK, highlighted the company’s broader ambitions. “Our goal is to make electric driving seamless and accessible for everyone, and these new charging hubs are a significant step forward in Scotland’s transition to cleaner transportation. But this is just the start.
“E.ON operates thousands of charging points across Europe, and these new hubs are part of a wider effort to expand our network across the UK, supporting greener infrastructure nationwide,” Chana added.
Scotland’s EV charging network is the second largest geographically in the UK, but the new hubs are expected to improve accessibility and enable smoother journeys for EV users. E.ON’s expansion aligns with its broader efforts to revolutionise EV travel across the UK.
In 2024, E.ON introduced 72 ultra-fast charging bays in England and Wales, including Wales’s first ultra-fast public hub with 10 chargers and a site in Selby, Yorkshire, featuring six 300kW charging points.
E.ON has also made significant strides in residential and business EV charging. Over 8,000 home chargers and 2,000 chargers for small businesses were installed in 2024, facilitating over 50 million miles of EV travel.
E.ON’s investment in Scotland’s EV infrastructure forms part of its commitment to accelerate the UK’s energy transition, providing critical support for the adoption of sustainable transportation. The company aims to continue bridging infrastructure gaps to make electric driving more convenient and accessible for all.
