Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) in the UK has announced its decision to adopt Sectra’s One Cloud solution, a cloud-based medical imaging platform. This new integration will enhance collaboration with Homerton Healthcare, which is already utilising Sectra’s cloud services, improving workflow and efficiency while reducing costs.
BHRUT has been using Sectra’s radiology solution since 2015, operating from King George Hospital in Ilford and Queen’s Hospital in Romford, serving the communities of Barking, Dagenham, Havering, and Redbridge in East London and Essex. The unified platform will facilitate better cooperation between the hospitals, ensuring that radiologists have immediate access to each other’s imaging and patient data. David Newey, Interim Chief Digital Transformation Officer at BHRUT, emphasised the importance of this collaboration: “We cooperate extensively with Homerton to ensure the patients in our region receive timely care, and therefore see huge benefits in further facilitating that collaboration.”
Sectra’s One Cloud service will take full responsibility for the technology and operation of the system, significantly alleviating BHRUT’s IT burden. The company will provide continuous monitoring, optimisation, and upgrades of the system, along with 24/7 support. This comprehensive service aims to ensure a seamless experience for healthcare providers and patients alike. “As Sectra takes responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the system, the resilience of the service we provide to our patients will improve, whilst our maintenance overhead will be reduced,” added Newey.
The contract for Sectra One Cloud was signed in the second quarter of Sectra’s 2024/2025 fiscal year. Initially, BHRUT will utilise modules for radiology and breast imaging. The move to a cloud-based solution aligns with a broader trend among hospitals aiming to enhance security while reducing the strain on IT resources, especially in the face of staffing shortages.
Jane Rendall, Managing Director for Sectra UK and Ireland, highlighted the significance of this partnership. “An increasing number of hospitals are transitioning to cloud-based solutions to enhance security and reduce IT burdens. This shift addresses the widespread challenge of shortages in IT staff required to manage hospital systems. We are proud to provide BHRUT with a solution that relieves this significant burden. We are looking forward to continuing to support them and to enhance their cooperation with Homerton for improved patient care in the region.”
Sectra’s enterprise imaging solution is designed to offer a unified strategy for all imaging needs, reducing operational costs. The modular nature of the service allows healthcare providers to expand their capabilities from one specialty to another, adapting as their needs evolve. As hospitals increasingly seek efficient and secure solutions for medical imaging, Sectra’s offerings continue to position the company as a leading player in the field.
